Bethel Music will be one of the groups leading worship sessions at Jesus Global Youth day August 8,9 & 10 in Manila, Philippines. The group of artists known as Bethel Music officially emerged from Bethel Church in Redding, Calif. in 2009 in an effort to be intentional about stewarding well the talent and songs God with which God had blessed the congregation. The collective includes several singers, songwriters and musicians who not only record music together but individually as well with the shared mission, “to carry the culture of Heaven to the nations through worship and see the global expansion of God’s Kingdom through His manifest presence.”
Bethel Music now tours internationally and has released 16 records as a group as well as more than 20 others from individual artists within the collective, including Amanda Cook, Cory Asbury, Steffany Gretzinger, Kirstene DiMarco and Brian and Jenn Johnson.
The group’s most recent record, Victory, was released in Jan. 2019 and comes out of a dark season for many of the artists, including a battle with anxiety and depression as well as the miraculous healing of Bethel Music CEO Joel Taylor’s 3-year-old son. One of the anthems on the record in particular was directly inspired by this experience.
“’Raise A Hallelujah’ was written in the middle of our community praying for our friend’s little boy Jaxon as he was fighting for his life in the hospital,” explains member Jonathan Helser. “The reports from the doctors were very bleak and it seemed like Jaxon may not live, but in the middle of the storm, we began to sing our hallelujah louder than the unbelief. We watched a miracle happen as heaven came and filled Jaxon’s body with life and he was raised from his hospital bed.”
All 14 tracks on the album are also inspired by the story of King Jehoshaphat (2 Chron. 20) and the unlikely victory of the people of Judah over Moab and Ammon, won by trusting God and sending worshipers to the front lines of battle, only to find God had intervened and the enemies had destroyed one another already.
